Brisbane Seinendan Japanese Community FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MATSURI BRISBANE 2021
CANCELLED
We, Brisbane Seinendan Japanese Community (BSJC), the organiser of Matsuri Brisbane must unfortunately inform you that Matsuri Brisbane 2021 is cancelled as from today.
The lockdown may be lifted this coming Sunday, but restrictions will remain
tough. These restrictions will prevent our visitors (attendees) feeling the real essence of Japanese festival fun, which is what our event was designed to create. Not being able to achieve this would not be good for our event’s long-term reputation and we not want to jeopardise this. Further, BSJC is a non-profit organisation and a community group, so we do not want to risk our Matsuri causing any new outbreaks or becoming a spreader event.
As you can appreciate, it has been a very tough decision for us to reach and to inform all of you who have supported and cooperated with us with our efforts to make this event happen again this year. We strongly hope you all understand our reasons for not proceeding with Matsuri 2021 this year under these uncertain circumstances.
We will be continuing to contribute to the local community as well as the Japanese community here in Brisbane. We remain positive for Matsuri Brisbane 2022, when more Australians are protected by vaccines and can live more freely again.
If you have any queries or requests in relation to this decision or our future activities, please contact us on the email contact above.
